Open Gardens & Garden Visits
One of the best ways to get great ideas for your Patcham garden is to visit other fabulous gardens and steal theirs! We are organising a number of visits to local(ish) gardens during 2024, and PGN members will be opening up their gardens for all to see. Please see below for details of open gardens and past visits.
Open Garden 15th June 2024
PGN Chair Sally Booth will be opening her garden on Braybon Avenue on June 15th 2024 between 11am and 4pm.
Open Garden 13th July 2024
PGN member Sara Piper had her garden in Patcham village landscaped last year and planted up in the autumn. She invites everyone to come and see how it is progressing on Saturday 13th July 2024 from 2pm.
Sussex Prairie Garden
One of the best gardens in the country is just 20 minutes from Patcham! We enjoyed a tour of the fabulous Sussex Prairie Garden in Henfield, led by their co-creator, Pauline McBride at the height of the 2023 summer season.
Surrounded by mature oak trees, the eight acre garden consists of a series of interlocking arcs of large planted borders in a naturalistic style. Large drifts of different varieties of plants are grouped in a free flowing style, with contrasting leaf forms, stems, stalks, flower shapes and textures.
Town Place Garden visit July 2023
We enjoyed a private tour of the fantastic Town Place Garden, near Sheffield Park in July.
Recently featured on the cover of Country Life Magazine, Town place is a three-acre garden with over 600 roses, herbaceous borders, a herb garden, topiary inspired by the sculptures of Henry Moore, ornamental grasses, an 800 year old oak, potager, and a unique 'ruined' Priory church and cloisters, in hornbeam.
Wisley visit April 2023
In April we took a trip to RHS Wisley - the sun shone and the tulips were out in force.
As an affiliated society of the RHS we are entitled to a free trip to one of their gardens every year. In 2023 we opted for a late spring visit to enjoy the early colour and promise of more to come.
